Mature foliage height 3 to 4 inch; low spreading groundcover.
Glossy bronze, medium sized rounded leaves in tight rosettes. Evergreen to semi-evergreen foliage forms dense, carpet-like, low-growing mat. Four (4) inch spikes of blue-violet, 4-lobed, flat flowers in late spring.
Prefers sandy, well-drained soil, or moist conditions with a good drainage. Tolerates clay or moderately dry areas, but do not allow it to stay too wet or dry. Spreads quickly by runners. Good ground cover; as a border plant; or in rock gardens, mass plantings (plant 6 to 9 inches apart), and containers. Thrives under tree and shrub canopies or along edges of shaded borders. Attracts butterflies and hummingbirds, and deer resistant. Member of the mint family, used as a medicinal primeval wound coagulant.
